The ABCDE Grant Award Program is a special initiative created to support Egyptian medical graduates as they navigate the challenging journey toward U.S. residency training.

What is the ABCDE Grant Award Program?

The ABCDE Grant Award Program is an initiative launched by ABCDE in 2021 to provide financial support to Egyptian international medical graduates applying for residency training in the United States.

The grant is provided as an interest-free loan that is typically repaid over three to five years after recipients successfully match into a residency program. Repayments are returned to the fund to support future applicants.

The program is funded primarily through donations and contributions from the ABCDE Board of Directors. Its long-term goal is to help train outstanding Egyptian physicians who can later share their knowledge and experience with the Egyptian medical community.

Who is eligible to apply?

All Egyptian international medical graduates applying for the Match in the current cycle are eligible to apply.

Applicants must have an active ABCDE Professional Membership and must provide all required application documents listed on this page.

What expenses does the grant cover?

The grant is intended to help cover some of the costs associated with the residency application process.

Eligible expenses may include ERAS tokens, USMLE Step 3 registration fees, and other Match-related costs.

How many grants are awarded each year?

The number of grants awarded each year depends on the funding available through donations and contributions to the program.

Since its launch in 2021, the program has supported more than 35 applicants and awarded a total of $77,500 in funding.

In the most recent Match cycle referenced by the program, 10 applicants received funding, and all successfully matched into residency programs.

Is there any cost to apply?

There is no application fee for the ABCDE Grant Award Program.

However, applicants must have an active ABCDE Professional Membership to be eligible. The annual membership fee is $20.

Can previous applicants apply again?

No. The ABCDE Grant Award can only be awarded once to each applicant.

This policy allows the program to extend support to as many eligible applicants as possible each year.

Can I edit my application after submitting it?

Yes. You can edit and update your application while the application period remains open.

For a significant update after the deadline, such as an important addition to your CV, please . The team will add the information to your application whenever possible.

What happens if I miss the deadline?

Applicants are strongly encouraged to submit before the published deadline to ensure that their application is considered.

When a deadline is missed, you may still . Consideration of a late application cannot be guaranteed and depends on the review stage and the number of applications received.

How are applications reviewed?

Each application is independently reviewed by at least three members of the ABCDE Board of Directors using a standardized scoring system.

After the initial review, the Board discusses the results and selects applicants to be invited for virtual interviews. Interviews are conducted by a panel of three to five Board members.

The interview provides an opportunity to discuss the application, learn more about the applicant, and offer constructive Match-season advice.

Following the interviews, the Board makes its final selection. Successful applicants are notified by email with instructions for receiving the grant.
